I was thinking about how well my best friend Finnegan was looking the other day – he’s an Australian Shepherd and we had a big scare a few months ago when we discovered he had blood clots throughout his bladder. I love hanging baskets, they are so European. When the City of Victoria first started hanging flower-laden baskets from lamp posts throughout the downtown in 1937 it was rare to see these summer delights in North America. Victoria Day is unique to Canada, nowhere else in the world do they celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday. It was first declared the Queen’s official birthday in 1845 and became the public holiday known as Victoria Day after her death in 1901.
