Get your free psa test!
The PSA test is an important marker for a disease whose symptoms are not always noticeable. According to newly released recommendations from Prostate Cancer Canada, men should get a baseline PSA test in their 40s instead of waiting until they are 50.
In 2014 Country Grocer Men’s Health Day PSA-tested 627 men–26 of these tests showed risk for prostate cancer.
PSA testing is not publicly funded in BC and costs $30 on average – so lots of men put off getting their tests. It’s too important to postpone, which is why we’ll be offering FREE PSA tests!
It’s not just about PSA either – Men’s Health Day encourages men to implement positive lifestyle choices and to seek early and appropriate treatment for disease and injury. Over a dozen exhibitors and health practitioners will be on site to help men learn more about maintaining and improving their overall health. They will offer Free Health Assessments, Consultations and Educational Materials. Some examples of tests and information that will be available:-
- Cholesterol testing
- Blood glucose testing
- Smoking cessation and counselling
- Blood pressure testing
- Arthritis information
- Visual impairment information
- Neck and throat cancer information
