Canuck Duck and Karen begin another exciting adventure

Continuing stories of Canuck Duck and his trusty Side Kick, Karen England

Canuck Duck and Karen England from Accent Inns prepare for Machu Picchu.

Over the next several weeks we’ll be publishing the travel notes from Accent Inns own Karen England (sales manager) as she and Canuck Duck travel to and experience the wonders of Machu Picchu.

Their story begins as they prepare to start this epic adventure………..

Planning for the trip

“After my trip to Nepal with Karen England, Accent Inn Sales Manager on Vancouver Island, I thought we would hang up our backpack and spend our vacations at the spa from now on.  However, she has once again convinced me that walking up and down mountains is a good way to spend a vacation.

This time we are taking her husband David with us – a good idea since we will need the extra body heat in that tent when the temperature dips below freezing.

My buddy Lupita that joined us in Nepal will also be travelling with us.  She and her husband, Gordon will be taking the train from Cusco to Machu Picchu.  I guess the train must be very expensive since we have to walk there.

It will take us 4 days to hike from Cusco to Machu Picchu a distance of 45 kilometers.  However, we will be at altitudes of between 3300 and 4200 meters.  As we discovered in Nepal, thin air requires a little extra effort just to breathe.  When she told me we would end up at a lower altitude than where we start, I was thinking it would be a nice little downhill stroll.  However, I believe I am in for some surprises.  Apparently there are an awful lot of ups and downs before we end up DOWN at Machu Picchu.

We will soon be flying from Victoria to Lima.  I am so happy that we are having a Stopover at the Accent Inn Vancouver Airport – no early ferries, no panic over flight delays.  After a good night’s sleep and a free ride to the airport, we will be ready for our very long flight.

My backpack is ready and so am I.  I’ll keep you posted on our progress.”
