We are pleased to announce a series of events that will be taking place at Accent Inns locations across BC this April, 2011. Charity in Changing Times, Social Media & Online Communications is a no-charge event for charitable organizations. This is the second year for the series, and its really gaining momentum. The focus is to assist charitable organizations to thrive using a combination of traditional and new media. Accent Inns ‘Inn Aid’ recognizes the economic and volunteer challenges facing charitable organization and has gathered a panel of experts to share their knowledge of marketing in changing times.
In every city you will enjoy a continental breakfast followed by a day of interactive education with a panel of experts, facilitated by John Espley of Accent Inns. Take a peek at what we’ll cover:

- Time management

Theresa Lalonde started working for CBC Radio when she was a teenager, hosting CBC North’s Saturday Night Request show. She’s also been a reporter and producer in Ontario and Nova Scotia before joining the Vancouver newsroom in 2000. She’s worked for national radio programs and local news, now producing for radio, tv and the web.
Theresa trained all CBC staff in BC on social media tools and was a key player in helping the region develop it’s social media strategy. She currently covers consumer issues.

Chris Walker is the news editor at CBC Radio in Kelowna. Originally from Galiano Island on the coast, he’s also worked as a journalist in Victoria, Ottawa, and the Middle East, where he lived in Cairo, Egypt.
Prior to moving to Kelowna, Chris hosted the CBC morning show in Prince George. As an editor in Kelowna, Chris coordinates and presents the morning news on CBC Radio One and Two, and produces news items and documentaries for provincial and national programs. Chris spearheaded the CBC Kelowna’s foray into social networking.
Chris volunteers with Project Literacy and the Terry Fox Run in Kelowna. Chris is married and is expecting his first child in September. He holds a Master’s degree in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa.

Tim Shoults is publisher of the Kamloops Daily News and regional manager for Glacier Media’s Interior community papers, the Bridge River-Lillooet News and the Merritt News.
Tim started his journalism career at the Jasper Booster in Jasper, Alta, before becoming editor of the Squamish Chief. He then worked as editor and publisher of the paper for several years and later served as regional manager for Glacier Media’s Coastal Group, with newspapers in Squamish, Whistler, the Sunshine Coast, Lillooet and Merritt.
Tim has been actively involved with Glacier Media’s new media efforts for many years. He helped lead Glacier Media’s new website implementation project in 2008 and is an active part of the Kamloops Daily News’s new media and social media efforts, which have recently resulted in awards from the BC and Yukon Community Newspapers Association and the Canadian Community Newspapers Association.

Tanya Smith – CHEK NEWS Community Relations
With nearly 10 years of experience in tourism marketing and sponsorship, Tanya Smith brings a valuable background in promotions, resort management, and public relations to any project. She is an accomplished, motivated professional with a proven track record of working with charity groups crossing all sectors.
Tanya has held communications positions with a number of Vancouver Island tourism and communication leaders, including: Mount Washington Resort, Cherry Point Vineyards, CHEK NEWS and has run The Cowichan Wine and Culinary Festival for the last five years, a festival she helped found in 2005.
CHEK NEWS has been a leader in their dedication to community relations and sponsorship since its launch over 50 years ago. Each year the station contributes over a million dollars of support to charities of all sizes. As the coordinator of this support, Tanya oversees the production of each PSA, works with the newsroom team on event coverage and can often be found on-site volunteering her time at various charity events.

John began his community involvement at the age of 12 helping cook and serve for those in need through James Bay community association. His connection to community continued and through his career he has assisted many non-profit and community organizations, lead local charity and membership based organizations, sits on several boards including being the Vice Chair of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce and is a Past President of Sales and Marketing Executives of Victoria.
He has worked for Accent Inns for 23 years and held positions in Hotel Management, Sales Management and currently holds the position as Business Development manager. Responsibilities include Public relations, Community relations, Strategic partnerships, Internet, Tour and Travel.
This role makes John the point of contact for community and non-for-profit groups making contact with Accent Inns. He is responsible for all donations and sponsorships related to the companies community support efforts. John’s career in the hospitality industry and as a Sales professional gives him a unique and valued perspective when working with non-profit agencies.
