What Does Accent Inns and the Royal Canadian Navy Have in Common?

Tuesday, November 8th, 2016

captain-of-the-navy-introduction-2016img_1049The answer is Mandy Farmer, CEO of Accent Inns and also Honorary Captain for Canadian Forces Base Esquimalt. Seeing as Ms. Farmer recently received this great honour, I thought it might be a good idea to take a quick look at the history of Maritime Forces Pacific (MARPAC) in Esquimalt, BC. (more…)

All of a sudden, everywhere seems a little darker and dingier. At this time of year, I catch myself turning on more and more lights; this got me thinking about energy savings, which in turn got me feeling guilty, which made me turn off some lights, which got me feeling a little depressed. Hanging Basket at the Accent Inn Victoria BC

Hanging Basket at the Accent Inn Victoria BC

I love hanging baskets, they are so European. When the City of Victoria first started hanging flower-laden baskets from lamp posts throughout the downtown in 1937 it was rare to see these summer delights in North America. This year will be the 79th year visitors to this fine city will be treated to a floral display second to none – hanging baskets and Victoria are synonymous. This year 1,350 baskets will be hung up during the second week in June, each containing 25 plants and weighing around 20 kilograms. (more…)

Victoria Day is unique to Canada, nowhere else in the world do they celebrate Queen Victoria’s birthday. It was first declared the Queen’s official birthday in 1845 and became the public holiday known as Victoria Day after her death in 1901. The day actually celebrates two Queen’s birthdays (Victoria’s actual birthday on May 24th) and Elizabeth II (it is by legislation her official birthday in Canada). It is always celebrated on the Monday prior to May 24th. This year Victoria Day will be on Monday May, 23rd. (more…)

Wednesday, May 4th, 2016

Accent Inn recieives tripadvisor certificate of excellenceThe hotel industry has sure changed over the last decade. The early adoption of online reviews by our industry’s guests has not only taken the accommodation industry by storm but also restaurants, attractions and more.  How do we as a chain of hotels in B.C. feel about online reviews? Of course we cringe if we see someone complaining, but that’s to be expected. The key is to respond and learn from those complaints or concerns. More importantly is to make sure that we are succeeding by getting far more praise than not. (more…)
