ADOPTION AWARENESS MONTH

November 12th, 2013

adopt_imageFor over 20 years, November has been recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month. The goal of this important month is to help raise awareness about the over 1,000 children and youth in BC who are registered and waiting to be adopted. Each year, a Provincial Proclamation kicks off activities and celebrations that promote positive perceptions, draw attention to important adoption related issues, and celebrate families formed by adoption. National Adoption Awareness Month is a time for adoptees, adoptive parents, advocates, and professionals to celebrate adoption and remind others that hundreds of children are still waiting for a permanent, loving family to call their own.

This year Accent Inns helped kick off Adoption Awareness Month by joining the Adoptive Families Association of BC’s kick off celebration at BC Place with the BC Lions and Stephanie Cadieux, Minister of Children and Family Development!

“We know that kids who grow up and move into adulthood with the stability and support offered through adoption experience better outcomes than their peers who leave government care without the foundation of a permanent family environment,” said Minister Cadieux. “Knowing a family is there to cheer them on from the sidelines at their soccer games, listen attentively as they deliver lines in their play, or give them a hug when they’re feeling alone can mean the world to a child or teen.”
