For Immediate Release:

Accent Inns CEO, Mandy Farmer, recognized as one of Canada’s Top Female Entrepreneurs on the 2010 PROFIT W100 list

October 20, 2010, Victoria, BC – In two years, under the leadership of Mandy Farmer, Accent Inns has expanded its markets, greened more of its business process and retained staff far beyond industry standards. They have also had a profitable year while holding true to their company vision of investing back into the community, in light of a poor global economy, an accomplishment elevating Farmer into an elite group of Canada’s Top Women Entrepreneurs, as recognized by PROFIT magazine’s 12th annual W100 list.

“It’s a huge honour to be recognized as a Top Woman Entrepreneur in this country, and I’m extremely privileged to have such an amazing team of staff who support the direction of this company during my position as CEO.” says Mandy Farmer, CEO of Accent Inns.

Mandy Farmer has been at the helm of Accent Inns, a BC family based company, since 2008. Today, in her late thirties, she acknowledges that she is no stranger to the trials of hospitality. Farmer gained her professional achievement through a lifetime working in the industry. Her career started as a room cleaner at a local bed & breakfast, bussing tables, working front desks, and then moving into a supervisor position at the Fairmont Empress Hotel. With this experience under her belt, she returned to Accent Inns as regional sales manager. Her expanded knowledge, dedication and passion eventually earned her the position of vice president and in 2008 she was promoted to president and CEO of Accent Inns, taking over from her father and founder of the company. Today she oversees five properties in BC, all of which are undergoing major renovations, reflecting the growth and success in 2009/10.

“The 2010 PROFIT W100 are ambitious, savvy business leaders who defy stereotypes,” says Ian Portsmouth, Editor of PROFIT. “Canada’s Top Women Entrepreneurs deserve the highest praise for their ability to spot opportunity and grow profitably.”

Recognition is based on ranking Canada’s Top Women Entrepreneurs on a composite score based on the size, growth rate and profitability of their businesses. The PROFIT W100 profiles the country’s most successful female business owners. Farmer’s successes earned her 12th spot.

Outside her responsibility as a CEO, Farmer takes time to engage with the greater community. Motivated by the belief that building a business and building community go hand-in-hand, her business mantra reflects her actions and that of her staff. Under Farmer’s leadership, InnAid, an Accent Inns company-wide program, engages staff in community based activities that emphasize making a difference in people’s lives and supporting a sustainable world. In two years Accent Inns has supported more than 430 organizations in BC. Her personal endeavours reflect her business vision. Farmer is an advisory board member of Power to Be, which provides outdoor education programs that enrich the health and quality of life for disadvantaged youth and their families, and she is Vice Chair at Tourism Victoria.
