ALS Cycle looking to next year
August 28th, 2014
There’s been lots of media attention lately for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge which is really cool, In fact I did that challenge myself (John – editor) We want to make sure though that a hardworking group of volunteers and cyclists from the ALS Cycle of Hope are also given accolades for their efforts to raise awareness, support and research dollars for ALS. These folks did far more than just dump ice water on their heads. The following post is an excerpt from the ALS Cycle for Hope post event wrap-up for 2014. Accent Inns has been thrilled to support these awesome volunteers! Each year, for the past three years, the Cycle of Hope Society proudly offers a variety of exciting fundraising events and fun community/family cycling events in Kelowna and Victoria. The Cycle of Hope Society also professionally trains a group of 12-16 individuals, in Victoria BC, who commit their time and energy to be part of the ALS Cycle of Hope cycling team. This team, in mid-August of each year, rides the unforgettable 500km ALS awareness journey from Kamloops to Keremeos BC. During this unique 7-days ALS awareness journey, the ALS Cycle of Hope cycling team members meaningfully connect with many BC communities and families along the way. Riders take time to listen and share stories on how ALS has profoundly impacted lives. Needless to say, it is a purposeful journey and an unforgettable experience for the riders and for families we meet. Visit our website at www.cycleofhope.ca to see how you can take part of this life changing journey in 2015 and read our blog to look back on the 2014 adventures of our team… By visiting our site at cycleofhope.ca, you will learn how your family can be involved in 2015… and how truly exciting the opportunity will be! With a clear mission of raising greater ALS awareness and inspiring hope for families living with ALS, this year, the Cycle of Hope Society also fund raised for both ALS BC&Yukon and ALS Canada. The Society is proud to announce its 2014 fundraising achievements:we reached over $60,000 for ALS Canada! With these funds, a wheelchair worth $25,000 is being purchased and will be donated to the Equipment Loan program at ALS BC&Yukon. The remainder of the funds will support research initiatives in finding a cure for ALS at ALS Canada.
We would like to take this opportunity to send you all a heartfelt thanks for believing in and supporting the Cycle of Hope’s mission of raising greater ALS awareness and inspiring hope for families living with ALS. A special thank you also goes to Mayor Peter Milobar of Kamloops and Counsellor Cowling of Keremeos. To all our amazing community sponsors; Accent Inns, BCTree Fruits, Wicked Spoon and Fresh Air Concept, and to the Kamloops RCMP escort, Kamloops and Kelowna Firemen’s escorts for keeping us safe along the route. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to each and everyone of you who supported us by following us on our journey, donating to our fundraising page at ALS Canada, bringing bottles to the Bottle Depot, and to each of you who cycled along our side to support our fundraising efforts and our mission. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year and we are looking forward to meeting more families from the ALS BC communities along our 2015 ALS awareness journey. Get cycling for ALS! Sincerely, The ALS Cycle of Hope Society”
